Beginners Meditation – where to start?

Oh where to start, beginners meditation is a confusing subject. Which type of mediation is best to start with, should you simply listen to a CD, a guided meditation or is there a simple relaxation mediation to start with.

If you are new to meditation, then if you were like me, there were too many options available and you’ve become confused.

But before you jump into trying to get to an Alpha Brain wave state or to expel those stresses around you, you first must realize there is a simple first step you must use.

Don’t Forget The First Step

Meditation for beginners needs to be simplified otherwise you will become like almost 90% of those who start. You will practice for a week or few and then stop. Why?

It becomes too hard to keep up with the practice or you don’t see quick results.

But you can help kick start the process if you follow a simple step-by-step approach to your mediation journey. Using a simple process will allow you to progress and benefit from each of the steps.

However, for most the first step is missed altogether…

The First Step In Beginners Meditation

Most techniques will simply tell you to sit down, relax and start to meditate. Or place headphones on, sit quietly and listen.how to meditate

But the first step is glossed over, talked about minimally or not at all.

The first step is in fact sitting still, not trying to relax, not trying to remove tension from your muscles, simply sitting still.

For most this can be very hard to do…

Unless you have control over your body you will never have control over your mind.

How To Start

Before you jump into any meditation for beginners, you need to learn to sit still. Pick a place where you won’t be disturbed and it is good to sit in the same place each day, and preferably the same time.

Then just sit there, let your mind do as you wish and you can even think whatever you like. But your goal is to sit still …

Try not to fidget, move, itch, scratch or anything else. Simply sit there for 15 minutes.

You will be amazed at the urges you have to get up and go to the toilet, or to get the phone that suddenly rings. But forget them all…

Simply sit still for 15 minutes. When you can master this and be able to sit quietly where your body doesn’t move, fidget or anything … then you can move on to the next stage of calming your body’s tension.

Your goal today and until you can master this step is to choose a place in your home, and sit quietly for 15 minutes … learning to control your body.

Once you can sit still with muscles relaxed, then and only then can you start to work on your mind.

Beginners mediation is not hard, if you know the right steps to follow. Being able to meditate anywhere or anyplace is the key to being able to repel stress when you need to most. Click the link below to learn how to meditate simply and easily.

Silva Mind Training – fact or fiction

I’ve been following the Silva Mind training now on and off for years. However it is only in the last 6 months that I have made it a regular practice. This is not because it is too hard follow or use, it was just that I made it difficult for myself.

This blog post will help those who decide to use the Silva Method follow a better approach than I did initially.

What You Get With The Silva Mind Package

When you purchase the Silva Method you get 10 CD’s, each with numerous recordings. You can get it as a hard copy or downloaded format so you can place these on to your iPod or MP3 player.

Their deluxe version gives you both.

Anyway, on each disk there are lectures from the trainers telling you more about the method, why it works and little insights to make your Silva Mind training better. But there is a minor problem.

The Bad Points

If you are like me and want a simple step-by-step approach then you may be a little disappointed. Although the disks are meant to be listened to in order, there are no guidelines as to how long you use each before you move on to the next step.

Saying that, it does mean you follow at apace that is best for you rather than a formula for everyone that may not suit you.

The Solution to the Bad Points

Now I’m no expert, but what I found is that if you use the Alpha Mind session daily so that you practice going to our level and create the mind ready for programming what you want, this only takes about 10-15 minutes.

It actually becomes addictive in that if you miss a day you really start thinking of how you will do it that day. The exercise is really easy to follow, and you do feel great after it.

Then each day use one of the other recordings. As soon as you can master the technique then you can do these without actually listening to that particular disk.

The Great Part about the Silva Method

What is brilliant is that this is a training. You actually learn the techniques, it is active meditation so that eventually you don’t need to listen to the disk. Saying that I still listen to the alpha session every single day.

Once you learn each technique (it took me about 3-4 days on each training) you can then work out which one you wish to use to program what you ware wanting.

The Techniques Inside the Silva Mind Training

I wanted to learn numerous techniques so I still use many each day. The beauty is they only take a few minutes while meditating, so I incorporate about 4 every time I meditate, and I only meditate for 15 minutes.

As they say in the training …

5 minutes a day is good, 10 minutes is great and 15 minutes is excellent. Once a day is good, twice a day is great and 3 times a day is excellent.

I meditate for 15 minutes each and every day, and then 3 or 4 days each week I meditate twice on that day.

To make a steady change they say that you use a particular technique once every 3 days. If it is something big you wish to work on and make change faster then meditate daily.

There are techniques to change your health, activate the Law of Abundance, problem solving, intuition, healing others, improve habits, speed learning, manifestation and others.

The Bottom Line

I still follow the Calm Mind techniques I learnt many years ago and I still find them brilliant. But if you want o advance your skills then the Silva Mind training is second to none.

The recordings are easy to follow, the techniques easy to implement, it takes that amount of time YOU want to spend, it is incredibly addictive as you enjoy the meditation process and the benefits are out of this world.

I cannot recommend the Silva Method highly enough so if you want to blow your mind and experience levels of meditation that help you program the life you want and deserve then you owe it to yourself to try the Silva Mind training.

Learn To Meditate Easily

I was once told that to learn to meditate you had to spend many hours practicing, that it took years to master the art, and that very few ever got to a level of meditation that you need to make true change.

Boy was I wrong…

Meditation is in fact very easy to learn, simple to master and everyone can get to those deeper levels where you can set goals, gain health, reduce stress and so much more. In fact once you learn to meditate the correct way, you will find it fun, enjoyable and you can meditate each and every day in just a few minutes.

Meditation For Beginners

When you first start to meditate, it can get a little confusing. Should you just listen to a CD, attend a class, read a book, or what really is best. You will read numerous web sites, listen to a few pod-casts, download a few free soundtracks, yet you are still not sure you are doing it correctly.

Don’t worry this is the most common feeling people have when they start, you are not alone in these thoughts.

If you are new to meditation, or even if you have been meditating for a while yet are not completely sure it is helping, then you need to make sure you meditate correctly. Get it right at the start and you will find meditation easy to do.

Get it wrong and you will end up confused and more stressed than when you started…

The Best Way To Learn To Meditate

Now, you need to remember, that everyone has their own opinions on what is the best way to meditate, and yes is this is my opinion. But it comes from trying everything …

Classes, CD’s, books, courses and many different forms of meditation too.

But the quickest, easiest and simplest way to meditate is to learn to meditate yourself at home, without CD’s or listening to anything at all. Why?

If you can learn to calm your mind (which is what meditation is all about) then when you decide to advance your skills, the other methods you try are simple to do.

If you can’t quiet your mind, if you can’t stop those thoughts or even sit still for a few minutes other techniques such as the Silva Method will never work. Sure you can just sit and listen to a CD.

It will be simple to strap on those headphones and spend half an hour listening. But when you need it most, when you are at work and the pressures are on, if you can’t calm your mind, then stresses will occur.

Will your boss allow you to go to a quiet place, strap on your headphones and spend half an hour listening to a CD? Probably not.

This is why the best and simplest way to learn to meditate is first learning to have a Calm Mind. I recommend this to you as the best and easiest way to learn beginners meditation techniques so you can then simply advance to other techniques.

The Silva Method – the ideal meditation technique

When I first learnt to meditate I struggled. In fact I struggled for many years floundering about trying to calm my mind. Eventually I did and was amazed at how simple it was when I was shown how to calm my mind.

But, I then realized that this was just the first step. To truly meditate, to reach levels of the mind to be able to set and achieve goals, improve my health, I needed something more.

By chance, coincidence, luck or whatever I stumbled across the Silva Method. It sounded just like the technique I was looking for.

This was no new age funk, this was based on science, been used by thousands and the story behind Jose Silva was fascinating. But then the decision, do you use the home study course or go to a class.

The Silva Method Classes

Being in a relatively remote country, I thought there was no way there would be classes in my country. To my joy there was, I still had to travel a good distance as it wasn’t in my city, but well worth it.

The class was for the entire weekend, and all day. The thought of sitting there and meditating for endless hours didn’t thrill me one bit.

However, if you have the chance take a Silva Method class, it is well worth the investment. By the end of the weekend I could have stayed a week or two longer. The techniques you learn and experience are literally mind blowing.

If someone had said to me that within 2 days I could scan someone’s body and tell them where their health problems lay. Or I could visualize someone’s house, who I’d never met and describe it to them accurately (not 100% I got their garage wrong, but I was close).

I know it sounds impossible or that you need some special skills. I would have said the same, but this is what happened. And not just with me. There was probably 30 in the class and literally everyone could at some degree do the same.

So I bought the CD’s!

The Silva Method Long term

Why did I end up buying the CD’s?

Well, after just two days I felt amazing. My mind was clear, I had a new purpose and I wanted to build on my meditation skills.

The beauty of Silva is that all you need is a few minutes each day. You actually learn to meditate which means after a few sessions listening, you can do the techniques without the CD.

This was fantastic as I always recommend that the best things to do are those you can do yourself unaided. Nobody walks around with a meditation CD at hand in case they are stressed.

I can literally take a breath, visualize the number 3 and be totally relaxed physically by the time I breathe out. If I visualize number 2 my mind is totally calm and clear. If I wish to meditate for any reason, then I use the 3-2-1 method to get me to that alpha level where I can meditate for anything I desire.

It is the simplest, most effective system for meditating, which is why it remains the most popular and most used globally. If you want to extend your meditation practice, I highly recommend the Silva Method.

Relaxation Meditation – is it really relaxing?

When I was first told I should meditate, the first attempt I followed was a relaxation meditation program. I must admit I failed dismally at relaxing and hopefully this post will help to stop you doing the same.

There are two ways to meditate, one is where you try to calm your mind so you have no thoughts in your head at all. This is “true” meditation and once you gain this skill you can then plant seeds of thoughts in your mind to help with intuition, abundance, health and numerous other benefits.

Mental relaxation on the other hand is like taking a holiday from your stress. It works well ONLY if you can sit still, create pictures in your mind and relax. If not it becomes very frustrating.

My attempts like I said were dismal. I listened to the teacher (you can buy CD’s that teach you this method) and tried to relax, which was hard as I had a busy day and few things on my mind.

I was then asked to picture a beach with white sand and softly folding waves. You get the picture…

The problem was that this is hard to do if you find visualizing hard to do, or if you even find sitting still for 15 minutes hard. This is why I learned that you have to walk before you crawl when learning to meditate.

But there are simple ways …

Relaxation Meditation Made Easy

If you prefer this type of meditation, then listening to CD’s is your best bet. You can strap on a pair of headphones, listen to some gentle music and picture a relaxing scene in your mind.

You’ll wake up after 30 minutes (yes these CD’s tend to last 30 minutes or more) and feel relaxed and calm. But even doing this, like I said, may be difficult unless you can follow the first easy steps of meditating.

Learning to calm your mind is difficult for most. The first step is literally learning to sit still for 15 minutes or more. This means no fidgeting, no itching or any other desire to move.

If you can do this then the next step is learning to calm your mind. This means being able to remove any thoughts from your head. This is essential as it means you can then replace these thoughts with relaxing ones.

If you can’t stop your thoughts then any type of meditation whether it is the traditional ways or simple relaxation meditation, you will struggle to gain the benefits.

So if you wish to remove stress, calm your mind and learn to meditate then you need to take baby steps first. It won’t take long to master these steps, but once you do then you are able to advance your meditation skills rapidly.

Can You Learn To Meditate In A Day?

I was told a while back now that I must learn to meditate. Why?

learn to meditateWell, I ran a business that was stressful to say the least. A lot of these stresses were out of my control and I spent many a night staring at the ceiling trying to get to sleep. The problem with having poor sleep is that it makes you tired the next day and the stresses get worse as a result.

The crux came when I went to see my doctor as I was getting headaches that were just not settling. He took my blood pressure and I’m not sure who hit the roof higher, her or me, as the reading was diabolical.

Being a fantastic doctor she recommended that I learn to meditate, as she knew about my business, family and other stresses. Medication to artificially lower my blood pressure in her opinion was not the best way to go about it.

So off I went to buy a book, CD or something that would teach to how to meditate.

Not All Meditation Is Relaxing

Eventually I decided on going to a class. They said it was a beginners meditation class, yet I must have been a real beginner. We had to sit in a hard chair, back straight and breathe … simple.

Then after a few minutes of this I was asked to picture a beach, walking along it with the waves crashing on the shore. Well ….

First I couldn’t see anything, it was black as the night, my eyes were closed. I’ve always found visualizing anything quite difficult. But I tried and more imagined what it would be like.

Then suddenly the teacher said to walk up the sand dunes on the left, but my dunes were on the right. I had placed the waves on the left.

Try changing mid-stream was impossible. I became fidgety and frustrated. Then we had a few more things to visualize, some light coming down into many head…

When we finally finished which felt like hours, I was more stressed than when I started. This was not going to help.

Perseverance is The Key

But when I got home my wife said, “Just think this is day one, it will get easier”.

So I went back again … and again … and eventually gave up I as found it just too hard to do. The class was difficult but the exercises we had to do at home even harder.learn to meditate

There was a sequence of things we had to do. I wrote them down but when you have your eyes closed you can’t read anything can you. And I sure as heck couldn’t remember 11 different things in order.

But perseverance is something I pride myself on. So I gave up on the class and decided there must be an easier way. I tried CD’s that had me listen to music with wave sounds, or streams and some weird noises.

The problem was it took an hour to listen too, some were only 30 minutes but for most of the time I would just fall straight to sleep anyway.

The Best Way To Learn To Meditate

Finally I stumbled across a simple system, it is called The Calm Mind. I’ve used it, as have a few of my friends and family, and it is very easy.

Now this is not an affiliate site, this is my personal blog I’ve started to write my experiences with meditation for friends, family and whoever wants to read this.

I’m not going to say this is the only way to learn, but it was the only beginners mediation technique that I found that actually reduced my stress levels. It is simple to use and now that I’ve mastered this technique some of the others I tried before have become very easy indeed.

So this is a great first step for any one wanting to learn to mediate or for those who have struggled in the past or want to make the whole process simpler. Check it out, the link is below and is not an affiliate link. But if you want to reduce stress and learn a great technique you can use anywhere which only takes a few minutes (meaning literally a minute or two) then read more.
